Away From Thanagar

It's been a long flight. Even with the faster-than-light travel capabilities of this starship, space seems endless. But it wasn't for Byth, and therefore it won't be for the two Hawks dispatched to drag him back to justice kicking and squealing.

Katar Hol has a checkered past, to say the least, which is why there is still some suspicion between his partner on this mission and himself. But there is also seven hells worth of downtime as they follow Byth's last known coordinates to trace his trajectory. If anything will unite the purposes of Katar and Shayera Thal, it will be the need to bring violent justice to that shapeshifting dog.

That anger scales back to a slow boil though, because there's a lot of space to get through before he can act on it.

A lot of space. And one person to travel with.

Unfortunately, that person isn't particularly good at "getting to know you"-type small talk. She doesn't seem very interested in it at all, to be honest. Whatever opinion she has of Katar seems to have already been formed, and if her standoffish behavior is any indication, it's not a terribly positive one.

She's spent most of her time studying Earth. Languages, history - they'll both need to be able to hold their own in human cultures, since there is a diplomatic element to this mission as well.

The ship isn't particularly large, though, and it's hard to avoid her new partner all the time. Right now, she's sitting in the cockpit, not because there's any piloting to do but because she likes it there, with her feet up on a control panel, studying translations.

She shrugs, not looking up. If she notices that he's looking at her, she doesn't let on. She's used to Topsiders staring at her, but not in the way that Katar occasionally does. Although whether she picks up the difference is anyone's guess.

"Maybe," she says. "Their... metahuman community might seem to indicate so. Though who's to say, really."

When she does look up, it's to gaze out the window again. The void of space yawns before them.

"The Green Lantern corps," she muses. She never knows what to make of those people, although she's never encountered any herself. They tend to leave Thanagar alone. It's a big universe. Still, there are stories - not Downside, of course, the idea of a unified force for galactic peace would be dangerous there, but in the Towers. "Why is Earth so over-represented there? Humans don't seem particularly well-suited to it."

They can't, for instance, survive unprotected in the vacuum of space, or endure extreme temperatures particularly well. They don't even have advanced genetic engineering programs working on those things, at least, not according to her files. She's done some basic review of their overall physiology and has, by and large, not come away impressed. For instance, what is up with their sinuses? Evolution really failed them there.
